Opaki visitor Trisha Lea provided trainer Kylie Little a special double after winning the $22,500 Kiltannon Stables (Rating 65) over 2100 metres at Te Rapa.
Little brought the daughter of Zed north as a travelling companion for her Foxbridge Plate runner Lucyinrio, but it was Trisha Lea that returned successful.
Starting from the near extreme outside barrier, rider Mark Du Plessis settled the six-year-old midfield two and three off the rail. Approaching the turn, Du Plessis was hard at work to keep his mount in touch but was able to get onto the back of Civique Rose (S.Spratt) as she cruised to the lead but was soon headed by the rejuvenated Trisha Lea who went onto win by half a length. Master Poet (C.Lammas) stormed home from the rear to finish third, a short neck back.
Trisha Lea’s winning time was 2:16.48 (last 600m in 38.69) on a Slow9 track.
“It’s not the first time I’ve had two wins on the same day but the first time I’ve won at two different tracks,” trainer Kylie Little said.
“It was her first time stepping over ground so we were happy with the wide draw. She likes to roll along.”
“It was a top ride from Mark (Du Plessis),” she said.
Little has trained two winners in a day before but not on two different track. On Saturday, Sir Kingwood won the opening race at Tauherenikau, and less than two hours later Trisha Lea completed the double.
The win was Trisha Lea’s second from 12 starts has earned $22,135 in prizemoney for a partnership made of associates from showjumping circles. Mrs B M Austin, R Brook, C Jones, R Kenny, Miss P M Ranstead, S Ryan, A, H & Mrs J Tolo.
